Your privacy matters to me. This policy explains what information I collect, why I collect it, and how I protect it. I’ve written it clearly because privacy shouldn’t require a law degree to understand.

When you use Slaosian, you may provide:

  • Account information: Name, email address, password, and profile details when you create an account
  • Profile information: Bio, subjects you teach, credentials (if you choose to become a verified tutor)
  • Content you post: SOS requests, tutor profile details, and messages you send
  • Communications: When you contact us via email, we keep records of those conversations

Information We Collect Automatically

When you use Slaosian, we automatically collect:

  • Usage data: How you interact with the platform (pages visited, features used)
  • Device information: IP address, browser type, operating system
  • Cookies and similar technologies: To keep you logged in and understand how people use the site

Information Related to Purchases

When you buy from our shop:

  • Payment information: Razorpay processes all payments—we do not store your credit card or bank details
  • Purchase history: What you bought and when

Information Related to Affiliates

If you join our affiliate program:

  • Payment details: Bank account or Razorpay information for commission payouts
  • Affiliate activity: Clicks and sales through your unique link

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and improve Slaosian: Make the platform work, fix bugs, and develop new features
  • Connect you with others: Display your SOS requests and tutor profile to the community
  • Process purchases: Handle payments and deliver digital products you buy
  • Pay affiliates: Calculate and send commission payments
  • Communicate with you: Respond to your questions, send important updates, and (with your consent) share news about new products
  • Keep the community safe: Monitor for spam, harassment, and policy violations
  • Analyze usage: Understand how people use Slaosian so we can make it better

We do not sell your personal information to anyone. Period.

3. Sharing Your Information

We share your information only in these specific situations:

With Other Users

  • When you post an SOS or create a tutor profile, that content is visible to the Slaosian community
  • Your name and profile picture are visible to people you interact with
  • Messages you send are visible to the recipients

With Service Providers

We use trusted third-party services that process information on our behalf:

  • Razorpay: Processes all payments (their privacy policy applies to payment data)
  • WooCommerce: Powers our shop and manages product delivery
  • Hosting provider: Stores our website data securely
  • Email service: Helps us send important updates (we use your email only for platform communications and with your consent for marketing)

These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the services they provide.

For Legal Reasons

We may share information if required by law, or if we believe in good faith that it’s necessary to:

  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Protect the rights, property, or safety of Slaosian, our users, or the public
  • Investigate and defend against legal claims

Business Transfers

If Slaosian is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. You’ll be notified via email of any such change.

We use cookies (small text files stored on your device) to:

  • Keep you logged in
  • Remember your preferences
  • Understand how you use the platform

You can disable cookies through your browser settings, but some parts of Slaosian may not work properly.

Where We Store Data

Your information is stored on secure servers located in India. If you’re accessing Slaosian from outside India, your data will be transferred to and stored in India.

Security Measures

I take security seriously:

  • All connections to Slaosian use HTTPS encryption
  • Passwords are hashed and salted (we never store them in plain text)
  • Access to personal information is limited to me and essential service providers
  • Regular security reviews help identify and fix vulnerabilities

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While I work hard to protect your information, I can’t guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We keep your information as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services to you.

  • Account information: Retained until you delete your account
  • Purchase records: Retained for tax and accounting purposes (usually 7 years)
  • Affiliate records: Retained for commission tracking and tax compliance
  • Content you post: Remains visible until you delete it or your account

You can request deletion of your account anytime by emailing helpdesk@slaosian.com.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:

For All Users

  • Access and correction: You can view and update most account information directly. Email us for anything you can’t change.
  • Account deletion: You can request deletion of your account at any time

For Users in India (Under IT Act, 2000)

You have the right to:

  • Withdraw consent for marketing communications
  • Lodge a complaint with the relevant authority if you believe your privacy rights have been violated

For Users in Other Regions

If you’re in the EU, UK, or similar jurisdictions, you may have additional rights under applicable laws (like GDPR). These include the right to data portability and the right to restrict processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

8. Children’s Privacy

Slaosian is intended for users aged 13 and above.

  • Users between 13 and 18 should have parental or guardian permission
  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13
  • If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with information, contact us immediately and we’ll delete it

9. Third-Party Links

Slaosian may contain links to other websites (like affiliate links to external sites). This privacy policy applies only to Slaosian. We’re not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites—please read their policies.

10. Changes to This Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. When I do:

  • The “Last Updated” date at the top will change
  • If there are significant changes, I’ll notify you via email or a prominent notice on the site
  • Your continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy

11. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of India, specifically the jurisdiction of Kolkata, West Bengal, and complies with the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011.
